An Anglo Dane, I was born in Brussels in 1977, a childhood spent there and in Madagascar. I moved to the UK at 17 and did a foundation course in Brighton. Here I started using materials other than paint and created a series of 2-d stuctures with slate.
This was followed by a fine art degree at Cardiff University, where 'Artists Block' gradually set in. I went back to basics - painting the first thing to hand - and painted flowers for the entire 3rd year, graduating in '99.
I then spent a year at the Cyprus College of Art, painting stones and landscapes.
Moving to New Zealand for a year I stopped painting, which was surprisingly easy to do. I worked as a librarian and read about artists instead.

I then retuned to Brussels and found a lovely rooftop studio where the desire to paint crept back in. Here I worked landscapes based on the uniform Belgian coasts and after some travel, the very un-uniform hillsides of Kigali, Rwanda.
I believe you have to paint what you know, or at least what you'd like to, so it is here I began a series of self-portraits.
I'll probably be doing these for a while as even though I spend more time with myself then anyone else, it takes forever to get to know someone.
